Temperature
The average high temperature in Buenos Aires in March is 80 degrees, with an average low of 67 degrees.

Currency
Argentina’s currency is the peso. Bills come in denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos. One peso equals 100 centavos; coins come in denominations of 5, 10, 25 and 50 centavos, and one peso.

Travelers’ Checks
Leave them at home – hardly anyone accepts them. If you do need to cash travelers’ checks, do so at a bank, but expect a hefty surcharge.

Credit Cards
Most finer dining establishments and shops accept major credit cards (including American Express, Visa and MasterCard). When you’re out shopping, prices may differ depending on whether you’re paying con tarjeta (with a card) or en efectivo (in cash). Paying with a card can cost up to 10 percent more than with cash due to the recargo (surcharge) levied on most credit card purchases.

Time Zone
Buenos Aires is two hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time, three hours ahead during their DST.

Mail
If you’re sending items like postcards home to North America, the cost is about $1.35 per item. Postal branch offices are scattered throughout Buenos Aires, often as part of smaller stores. Look for the Correa Argentino signs.

Telephone Tarjetas telefonicas (phone cards) are sold at most kiosks can can be used for pay phones. Calling cards offer the best international rates and can be used from most hotel phones and all private lines.
